Within hours of the sun rising, Dr. Saraaf was able to find a cargo ship that was willing to take him to Florida, despite the fact he had no identification, passport or papers other than an expired driver's license. He could have easily found cheaper and more legal ways of getting to the US, but this wouldn't leave a paper trail.
